Yesterday I met with a couple for the second time, who were in need of financial planning. The mother wanted to extend her maternity leave to 18 months but was unsure if they could afford to do so. They felt unanchored financially and had no direction. I prepared a plan that showed the mom could stay home for 18 months, although it would take some sacrifices (short term) and hard work. I helped them get their finances in order and work together as a team. We even began talking about the dad leaving his workplace, where he is underappreciated and underpaid, and starting his own company. You could sense the excitement as they began to consider the possibilities open to them. I’ll be with them, helping along the way. This is why I love my job.
